PCI DSS is about managing the risks of handling credit card information for both the merchant and the provider... and needs to be part of your daily operations and business planning processes. For PCI DSS, there is a once-a-year self assessment questionnaire called an SAQ. You as the business owner are certifying that you adhere to the PCI DSS standards.
The consequences of not being PCI compliant range from $5,000 to $500,000, which is levied by banks and credit card institutions. Even if a company is 100% PCI compliant and validated, a breach in cardholder data may still occur. Cardholder Breaches can result in significant losses. The impact of noncompliance and or a breach is greater to a smaller company as their ability to overcome the problem and penalties is limited.

We frequently host small business education breakfasts in Texas and Missouri, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
